GSA
approved containers and vault doors are products
that have been designed, built, tested, and
approved to the requirements of Federal Specifications.
The General Services Administration (GSA) is
the preparing activity for those specifications.
Only products that have passed all GSA testing
to the requirements of a designated federal
specification may bear the label "General
Services Administration Approved. The manufacturer
attaches the label to the container. All maintenance
and service activity of a container, including
the reason the approval label is missing, should
be designated on the Security Container Records
Form. If this has not been done the container's
security integrity is in question. Until recently
there has been no formal means to inspect and
verify the integrity of a container.

GSA Inspection & Recertification
Classified
materials are stored in containers made to exacting
specifications. These are commonly called “GSA
Containers”. Some containers, although
old, are still quite usable. Others, may appear
new and to be in perfect condition, but have
hidden vulnerabilities. With our nations’
secrets at risk, we must do everything within
our power to be certain our classified information
is stored in containers that provide the protection
they were intended to. Our Training allows for
the identification of containers that are vulnerable,
yet permits the preservation of containers that
are not being used due to minor flaws - such
as lack of a GSA label. Many such otherwise
sound containers are currently shunned for this
very reason. However, without inspection by
a GSA certified person it is impossible to distinguish
between a sound and a fatally flawed container!
I have been authorized by GSA to inspect GSA
containers and apply new Recertified”.
